Thinkin' Sunny!

Sorry I've not posted of late but I'm embroiled in some projects that are taking up my blogging time. Soon, I'll talk about it but for now I thought I would post something "Springy!"

I'm sorta itchin' to plant some flowers in our city yard as there isn't much here to attract butterflies - another passion of mine. What would I do without my Dallas Red Lantana and my Old Fashioned Asters? Can I possibly live without walking through a cloud of butterflies every day? Photographing them has become an impulsive joy.

Which flowering plants have proven successful for you in attracting butterflies and bees? And, do you know of any shade loving plants that also attract these wonderful creatures?

Also, I'm trying to ID this particular sulphur and think it MAY be a female Cloudless Sulphur. It's important. Anyone?

That is a beautiful picture! I think your butterfly is a cloudless sulpher. I'm am so itching for spring too!

I have a small yard in a large neighborhood and I have found that verbena bonariensis is a great flower to attract butterflies and bees. Zinnias are a must have for me too.

I scrolled down to look at your pictures and they are beautiful. I too love photography....your butterfly is gorgeous....I can't wait for spring....but my yard is sort of overwelming....but just a peak of something green will be appreciated....

I found you on Randy's blog... judy

Thanks for the beautiful fresh breath of spring. A little early for planting here.

I too like this picture. Its hard to tell what kind of sulpher it is, for me at least, without being able to see the top and its colorations there.

Could be a clouded sulpher, or alfalfa butterfly, or a dog face, or a cloudless sulpher or a sleepy orange, or even a dainty sulpher. So many wonderful types and variations.

Love the photo...reminds me of what it will eventually look like around here. We had snow last night and more is coming, so it'll be a while yet! I have so many plants that butterflies seem to enjoy. I know they love my agastache...and verbena, as Robin mentioned. They absolutely LOVE my phlox,as well, and
buddleia. I know they love milkweed & I have some pink swamp milkweed seeds from another garden blogger. There are more, I just need to look at some photos to be reminded, because nothing is in the garden at the moment to refresh my memory!

Beautiful summer photo Debi! Looks like a Cloudless to me! I love the asters there too. Were they in your garden at the lake? The big butterfly draw in my NY garden was Purple Coneflower and Monarda. I have yet to look into the shade plants for my Alabama home. But we'll get together on that one for sure!

Your beautiful butterfly and asters complement each other in colouring.

I'm sure all the flowers feel that way about butterflies, though :)

What a lovely photo. Sorry I can not identify the butterfly. As for butterfly loving plants, how about a butterfly bush. Thanks so much for your kind comments on my blog too.

Cheers!

Oooo, the projects sounds intriguing! And I love the idea of planting a garden 'specially designed to attract bees and butterflies. I'm afraid I can't help with either recommendations for shade-loving plants or the name of the butterfly but I will say thank you for sharing this lovely, sunny photo of it!

Hope you're having a great weekend! :)

As the snow swirls around my windows today, I welcome the spring-like thoughts.
